Chinese may not be overtly religious but that doesn't stop them from treating superstition as religion. It goes far beyond merely "diffused" religion (I mentioned before that American atheists often think and behave like Christian fundamentalists) the way you said - China is the only other country I know of besides India that has a tradition of genital weight lifting in the 21st century.
The main advantages Chinese have over Indians in this respect are 1) Chinese are tolerant and far less likely to kill one another over matters of faith and 2) no casteism in China. Otherwise I don't see too much difference.
