Look at the example of India, the government couldn't even raise the price of train ticket and gas even though the government budget is in red. Subsidizing utilities and gas will only make people use them unwisely coz it is cheap. Let the market determine the price. There are other policies that can be used to cushion the economic fallout. Lower taxes, cheaper loan etc etc. I do agree with the subsidizing education though.
