Why do the British having base and lay claim on Virgin Island, Falkland Islands ........ etc?

Tell me, how does British, America, France ...... and the rest of these White Colonial Power able to claim all these World Island and area for themselves ........ many 10 of thousand kilometer away from their homeland?

What making these White Colonial Power able to claim all these ocean away; yet, we Chinese can't reclaim our ancestral land?
