The term Gooks originated from the Philippine native tribe called goo-goo!
The US marine used this native tribe from Philippine to reference all South East Asian and calling them Gooks!
Gooks means dark skin color folks from South East Asia!
When during the Vietnam War, the GI went into Vietnam and they continued this tradition and calling Vietnamese as Gooks!
But the actual term was first used to reference Filipino when they were under the occupation of the US Marine.
